Roast of the Day

Eric was impressed after I inhaled the "roast of the day" (and everything else on the plate) after a full day of traipsing though London. (Usually Eric gets about half my food portion. Not so today.) Ah London. It puts hair on the chest.

(P.S. I'm totally floored, though I've been here before -and yet still somehow expect that British speak and accent is just some stereo type- to find that people actually say thins like "rubbish" (for garbage) and "brilliant" (for great) and "crikey" (for god know what) and loads of other things that I can't think of right now because I'm exhausted. Good night then. (They say things like that too.))

Having hard time with internet (silly London) but I'll fill you in later.

The day

Green grass, sheep, old school phone booths, castles, strange geology, the Irish Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. (And now my photos won't load, so I'm going to have to leave you with that for now.)

By the by...

It's Pancake Tuesday here in the UK! Also known as Shrove Tuesday, the equivalent to Fat Tuesday in the US. But seriously, there are pancakes everywhere. I don't think we could have planned this trip any better for the pancake lover in the house (which is me). Right now I am eating sweet cream and apple pancakes.... so...tasty.

Still not sure about what time it is exactly. But that's the fun of it, right? Being a little off kilter, eating when you're hungry, sleeping when you're tired, doing as the Romans do and feeling like you're on one big trippy trip.

Belfast

It's been lovely so far. We've walked a lot, shook off that jet lag, and took a tour of the ship yards where the titanic was built (I know what you're thinking but, it's a source of pride around here nonetheless).

Sleepless in Belfast

ARG! Just want you to know that BT, the internet service in Belfast, is very much less than stellar. Good night. Sleep tight.

UK

Sorry for the crappy (and reversed) photo here. This was Eric and I in London almost 8 years ago. Two kids standing outside of Abbey Road Studios. We fly to Belfast today (and get there bright and early on the next Belfast morning...so I apologize in advance if I screw up the timing of this blog.) And then to London for a few days to try to cram in every last thing we missed last time (which is everything not Beatles). ;) Cheerio then.

Still Cold

But pretty today.

Them Kids

I just heard this song on the radio in my car on the way home from Spanish class. I got home and looked it up for several reasons one being that it made me bounce in my seat and crank the volume way up (okay that's two reasons), another being that if Eric were to sit down and write a song these days, it might go something a lot like this:

Courage, Confidence, Character

Tonight we ate just enough dinner to make us pass for responsible adults and then each ate about three stacks (sleeves? tubes?) of cookies, maybe more. I suppose we did just finance some little girl scout's way to college. See, totally responsible.

The way you wear your hat...

Got to see the new guy in town today. Still cute. As stylish as ever. One of these days I'll catch him with his eyes open.

Most of you know this, but I'll just say it. Trader Joe's Macaroni and Cheese is proof of God.

Friday Trivia

What does this word mean?

Paraskevidekatriaphobia

(Stock photo today, kids. Even if there had been a good photo op, I can't seem to find my little point and shoot.)

Just sayin'

Got the patient in today to see the doc again. Can I just take a moment to point out the obvious?

When people are sick and in pain this is the room they get for 45 minutes:
(actual photo)

But shouldn't it be a bit more like this? Wouldn't it be nice if the nurse brought you asiago bagel chips and a glass of eucalyptus water? Wouldn't it be awesome if after you talked to the doctor, your insurance covered a 30 minute massage?

Nap time

It's probably not nice to take a photo of an injured man while he sleeps. This guy threw his back out a few days ago and has been in a few variations of this position ever since. Though this was the most peaceful (and sound asleep) he's looked so far. Fingers crossed he's getting better.

Snake Plant Update

The little sprout is coming up fast! He's starting to look more and more like his parents every day. ;)

Suave Vest

I'm sorry. I know he is one strange man-child. Despite that, there will always be a special place in my heart for his Saturday morning show. For my birthday this year Eric gave me seasons one and two and let me tell you- many laugh induced tears have been shed. Especially during this, one of TV's greatest moments ever:

Sculpture Park

Today, since we've driven past it about 948,344 times, we finally took a walk through the Skokie Sculpture Park which was heavily skewed toward sculptures of naked chilly people. And good lookin' faces.

Homecoming

It was a perfectly sloshy snow-melty day to take a long walk with the two guys I missed most while I was away. I was bracing for a rude awakening but the Chicago weather was quite polite.

Mexico

I don't think there are words to describe the beauty of this place. If there are any, they are probably Spanish ones that I don't know yet. :)

Wednesday, February 4, 2009

We saw this little spider monkey yesterday while on a snorkeling adventure. I almost fell over with sadness because he is chained to a pole. But our guide Manny said that he is only chained up part of the day to keep him out of the kitchen of the people who rescued and domesticated him. His choice in beverages, however, should have been the subject of my next question. Ah well.

Souvenir

My favorite art usually involves glitter. If it lights up- even better. Add a religious element, and I've downright got it made. Last night I was pleased to have found the greatest memento. Mine for only 100 pesos.

This morning, a big bird perched on the roof next door and sang for us. I opened my eyes to see this in front of me. The sun rising over the ocean right outside our door. Then, later, I ate fried plantains in the jungle. Heaven exists.

Tulum

If all goes well, I will be on this very beach this afteroon. (Don't hate. Just make sure to comment on my tan when I get back. Vwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-! >;)) I now turn it over to my favorite guest blogger.
